Problem: You want to buy a mobile phone and have decided on how much to spend. Now, how do you finalize “The One” phone from hundreds of available models?
Solution: There are a number of options –
1) Search on Google
2) Go to a store and decide based on sales staff recommendations
3) Browse online commerce sites
4) Ask Friends for advice
5) Go to online forums and user review sites
If you are an average person, you must be starting your research online through “The Internet Giant” called “Google” (around 80% people start their research through a search engine).
You would type something like “buy mobile phone Samsung” or “buy smart phone price Rs. 10000”. And guess what, it will spit out millions of pages similar to what it showed to me:
These results will contain links to various “manufacturers’ sites”, “e commerce sites”, “review sites”, “forums” etc.
But you are confronted with “The problem of many”; Google tells you: “Go have a look at these links and Figure out dude!!!”; So you start browsing through the links and then you look at the clock and realize that you have just wasted two hours of your precious time which could have been better spent with your baby, mom or wife (in strictly alphabetical order J). For God’s sake, you are already short on time and everybody complains that you don’t care for them and in midst of all that, you are wasting time going through all this shit.
And then you browse through more sites, put another query on Google and this continues till you realize that it can go on for years and you decide to curtail the search for the “perfect phone”.
You buy a phone but are you sure that this is the right product for you. Do you feel convinced of your purchase decision? I am sure, the answer is “No” but you console yourself as you cannot afford to spend more time from your already stretched work and family life. So you compromise!!!
This is obviously not the optimum solution.
