When we want to express ourselves creatively, it’s easy to forget some of the fun outlets that we have in which to do so. Sure, makeup is one of them, along with hair color and clothes. However, we can customize our eye color too – something that often goes untapped in terms of the power it has to change our whole appearance!
Everyone’s eyes are beautifully unique just the way they are, of course – I’m not trying to say that this isn’t the case. However, sometimes we just want to change things up, or we need contact lenses for medical reasons. Finding places to buy them is the hard part most of the time, unfortunately.
When it comes to online retailers in general, I find that I’m often a little bit skeptic. How much can we really trust them, right? Drop shippers seem to be everywhere, so it can be nerve-wracking to purchase stuff without getting to see examples in person.
However, for something like contact lenses, there are plenty of reputable retailers out there. If you’d like to know what to look for, make sure to stick around! Rest assured, though, you’ll be able to find one that works for you if you look long enough.

What Makes Contact Lens Sellers Trustworthy?
So – what sort of qualities should we be looking for from our online retailers? I think the first thing that is a “green flag” of sorts for me is a reviews page. If they’re willing to show what their customers have to think and say about them, that’s typically a good sign.
You can see an example of that here, https://misakicon.com, if you want to see what a reviews tab might look like in the first place. Sure, it’s possible for us as consumers to independently go searching for that sort of thing, but that’s an extra step that I often just don’t want to be saddled with. The seller displaying it candidly is much preferred in my opinion.
Another thing is if they offer prescription contact lenses. Naturally, tons of places sell the color changing ones. However, if they provide those alongside prescription ones (or can combine the two to give you a custom, prescription pair of colored lenses), that’s a sign that they’re the “real deal” so to speak. You’re a lot less likely to get stuck with a drop shipped product if this is the case, since those sorts of companies can’t really fulfill custom orders in the same way.
Something else you may want to look for is whether or not they offer lenses for people who have astigmatism or other eye conditions that could impact the shape of their eyes or how sensitive they are to contacts. Even if you don’t need specialized ones like that, again, it’s just a sign that they really care about their customers.
Why Get Colored Lenses in the First Place?
If your eyes are extremely sensitive to light, you might actually benefit from a pair of them. They don’t have to be drastically different from your current color, even – small shifts can make a huge difference in terms of reducing the pain from looking at bright lights. Additionally, they can help with heterochromia if you’ve got two different eye colors.
While not everyone who experiences that wants to “cover it up” perse, if it is something that you’re self-conscious about, this style of contacts can be pretty nice. Again, since the good sellers offer customization options as well as examples of what they look like on real models, you should be able to get a pretty good idea of what you’re getting before you make the purchase.
Maybe you’re still not entirely sold on why you would want to get a pair anyway. I can understand that – for a long time, I can’t say I really understood it. However, there are plenty of practical motivations alongside the more fanciful ones.
Besides those more grounded reasonings, there’s also the creative ones. Cosplay is a big motivator for a ton of people when they’re looking to get colored lenses. There are entire stores dedicated just to selling special ones for anime characters, which tells you how big the market is for that sort of thing. Again, that’s where customization can be really handy.
Even Halloween costumes can be elevated by a nice colored contact lens. I know it might seem silly to buy them for one night a year, but there’s no rule saying you can’t wear them otherwise as well! Pair them with a fun makeup look for a night out!
Why Quality is So Important
Additionally, if you end up with ones of the wrong prescription or something, it can end up making your vision worse than it already was (speaking from experience). At the end of the day, it’s really important to put quality above quantity for something like colored contact lenses. Since they’re going directly onto our eyes, we need to make sure that they’re safe.
Few parts of our bodies are more important than our eyes. It stands to reason, then, that we should be doing our absolute best to protect them as much as possible. If you end up with a pair of sketchy contact lenses from a less-than-reputable retailer, you could end up damaging them.
That’s why I mentioned some of the ways that you can tell if a seller is legit or not. Obviously, they’re not the only ones, but they are some pretty compelling green flags. Feel free to do more research on whatever seller you settle on, too, just to make sure. It’s only natural to be a bit nervous the first time you hit “add to cart” and make your purchase.
However, once you’ve got your new lenses at home and are able to try them out, you can enjoy them over and over again! Even if it can be scary buying from a new place, don’t let that stop you from trying them out.
