Baggout operates one of the largest product aggregation portals in India with a daily traffic of over 25,000 visitors. We have been conducting surveys amongst the users to know how they celebrate different occasions. So, here we are, with the Independence Day survey to know as to how people are going to celebrate it this year and does Independence Day still hold its significance. The survey questionnaire was sent to over 1 lakh of our users and was responded to by around 1500 of them. Some of the results of the survey were truly enlightening so we have decided to share the same with rest of the community.
The main insights which can be derived from the survey are –
Total Respondents – 1543
Gender – Male (70%) and Female (30%)
Age – Less than 18 (3%), 18-25 yrs (39%), 25-35 yrs (41%), 35-45 yrs (11%) and 45+ yrs (6%)
Since, the respondents were mostly the youth, it was not surprising that 89% of them were going to celebrate the Independence Day, but what was surprising was that they would celebrate it by doing something special this year.
However, when asked that how would they celebrate it, majority of people claimed to celebrate it the traditional way by attending parades, flag hoistings or by watching patriotic movies back home. It means that the youth wants to do something special but needs more options to celebrate it differently.
The next two questions were focused on Government. With the recent demise of Mr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, we asked a poll question for the best president. Undoubtedly he is everyone’s favorite over Pratibha Patil, Dr. Rajendra Prasad and Pranab Mukherjee. He was a remarkable and lovable president indeed.
It’s quiet startling that when asked about the level of satisfaction with the Modi government, 17% of the people were very satisfied and 44% of the people were fairly satisfied. Mr. Narendra Modi has already made a good impact on the people. Hopefully that will continue.
Thus, people do care about how the government acts for the nation and how our leaders are. They note and make sure to be noted that who is more deserving and who isn’t.
Considering the fact that Independence Day is going to be on a Saturday, we were curious as to what the youngsters will be up to. So, we asked them questions regarding boozing, going on a weekend getaway or what would be their contribution on Independence Day be? Surprisingly, the respondents seems to be really good citizens. Or may be they want to be seen as good.
They (85%) were going to respect it as a dry day and avoid liquor over just 3% who were going to enjoy Saturday with the booze storage at home. This is definitely a big deal if they’ve been true to us while responding as the lifestyle today is such that people slog on weekdays to have a smashing weekend. The world seems to upload their weekend fun on all social networks. We can only hope that they would maintain a little law and order on this day and make the life of law-keepers slightly stress-free.
The next question was certainly imperative as we went about inquiring people about their bit to the nation on this day. We were really happy with the results as 43% claimed that contribute towards the nation on everyday basis so that’s not a question while 45% claimed that would do some good deed, like helping the citizens, serving the poor and cleaning the neighborhood. It’s great to see the spirit countrymen. Keep it up and make sure you do as you claim!!
As it’s a weekend and a gazetted holiday is lost, we were curious as to will people take another off for a weekend getaway or not. 91% said that they would stay in town while 9% had plans to leave by an extra off.
Lastly, we asked people if they think that Independence Day has lost its significance over time and no one cares about the sacrifices of freedom fighters or nation anymore. We expected different replies as with globalization and westernization, they importance of nationality seemed less but we were glad to see the replies. As many as 83% folks appealed that they take full pride in being Indians and its independence day is very valuable and essential and they pay due homage to it. Superb!!
All in all, the survey does throw light on the sincere citizens & the fact that they haven’t lost hope in the festival to celebrate the patriotic nature of day and pay respect to the nation. The young crowd of the country seems to be all set for working towards the betterment of their country and making a mark for others. We are hoping for a good vibe and will be looking out for people who would work towards the betterment in our surroundings on this Independence Day. JAI HIND !
