Survey Insights

Since, the respondents were mostly the youth; it was not surprising that 98% people are going to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. It’s a festival which means more to the youngsters than to the elderly.

However, when asked that if they look forward to the festival and value its significance, it was slightly shocking to see that our contemporary compeers still have plenty of faith in our traditional festivals and they keenly look forward to celebrating them, just like any other non-Indian festival. For them the festival holds a great significance to cherish the Bother-Sister Bond.

Indian festivals are lavish in nature and people get exhausted after celebrating them, so let’s just say that we were already expecting that majority people will say that they are happy about Rakhi being on a Saturday, so that they can celebrate it better.

In a generation where people under the same roof, hardly get time to spend with each other, we wanted to know that who would they celebrate Raksha Bandhan with. Majority claimed to be celebrating it with both real and cousin siblings, while others said that they would celebrate it with real siblings only.

Let’s just say that there were no clear majority when asked about the Rakhi gifts. Chocolates, Cash, Presents were in the list. But what was shocking was the reply’s in the others column, some people wrote that they expect nothing but love, care and safety from their siblings. Some also mentioned that any gift will be precious from their peers. It’s so heart-touching and refreshing to see such responses.

Raksha Bandhan has been a festival when most people in India travel, willing or unwilling as they have their siblings living in different cities or different states. So, it wasn’t strange when majority people said that they would undoubtedly travel to celebrate the festival with their siblings. It also shows that the festival still holds the same worth as old times.

To have the best Rakhi designs, has been a concern for both the girls and the boys. Majority said that they would prefer simple and sober Rakhi designs over the fancy, decorative or expensive ones. The Rakhi Manufacturers should take a note of this.

Lastly, we asked people if they were okay with the Chinese Rakhi flooding the Indian market and we are glad to see that most people want that we should stop using Chinese Rakhi and promote the Indian ones to boost our Indian Market. We are hoping that people will see to it that they buy Rakhi manufactured in India on this Raksha Bandhan. It’s a Indian festival and let’s boost our market by buying Indian products so that the festival is a happy one for everyone.

Remarks

In totality, the survey does bring to light that the youth of India might have learnt and accepted foreign culture but they haven’t forgotten our own traditions. It’s a sign of indemnity that our values aren’t lost and that the coming generations believe in sister-bother bond just like the previous generations. Relationships, peers and family are equally important to them as is the technology, freedom and individuality. Opinions might have changed a little, but the core values are still the same. Let’s celebrate Raksha Bandhan to the fullest on that note. HAPPY RAKSHA BANDHAN !
