Three girls living in a metro city pursuing their career, working independently may represent a broad and charismatic picture of what we call woman empowerment in a movie like “Pink”. You surely know how complicated it is for a woman to stay independently or as we say without guardians even if it is a metro city.
It’s long since words like feminism, independence came into the frame for a woman who expects to lead a life without a male entity ensuring her protection and rights ever since she was born. Yes, India has developed to a great extent but when it comes to ladies we are as judgemental as we were since years. The societal pressure and verdicts on certain things are somewhere injected into our nerves since years without a proper logic and facts just seem baseless in this case.

A movie like “Pink” shows the mirror to the ugly face of the society which we often neglect or can give thousands of useless logic to prove our own stupidity. Living in a super flourished city like Delhi, I can totally relate to the constantly nagging society and judgemental pressure towards which movie makes a strong move. Here are some of them which personally I felt remain intact despite how much we brag about feminism and gender equality:-
1. Finding an apartment in a metro city for unmarried working girls is a hectic task. And even if you’ll get one, there is a long list of rules and regulations that you have to follow in order to stay.

2. A working girl living on her own is an open opportunity for boys as they are more prone towards sexual indulgence as per our society’s theory.

3. Bonus – if the girl drinks or smokes because that for our society somewhere puts the girl into a complete negative frame

4. Girls working In a metro city are often considered an opportunity or I must say an easy target for the narrow-minded people and such women hardly get any piece of support from the people living around.

5. Talking to their male friends and inviting them home for a discussion or even a meeting is often found objectionable thereby judging the girl’s character without even thinking twice.
Let’s talk on the basis of facts a bit and you’ll see a slight glimpse of it-
1. An average of 6 rapes and 15 molestation are taking place in Delhi itself, everyday.

2. The much famous Nirbhaya Incident from Delhi again was a massive shock for all of us, and there were people amongst us who were justifying the incident by questioning the girl’s character itself. Such was the complexity we saw in The BBC DOCUMENTARY: India’s Daughter.

3. Talking about Nation, 848 Indian women are harassed, killed, raped everyday and this is way less than those cases which go unregistered. As per Huffingpost.

Even in the movie, Amitabh Bachchan just showed us some of the glimpse of our modern age society with reference to his rule book for girls through which he depicted the brutal mentality which we girls are facing since years. Here are some of the dialogues that are hard-hitting enough-
Hamare yaha ghadi ki sui, character decide karti hai
Kisi bhi ladki ko, kisi bhi ladke ke saath, kahi bhi akele nahi jana chahiye. Kyunki aisa karne pe, wahan ke log ye assume kar lete hai ki wo ladki willingly wahan pe aayi hai aur unhe usse touch karne ka license issue kar dia gaya hai.
Raat ko ladkiyan jab sadak pe akeli jaati hai to gaadiyaan slow ho jaati hai aur unke sheeshe neeche ho jate hai. Din mei ye mahan idea kisiko nahi aata
Sharab ko yaha ek galat character ki nishani maana jaata hai, sirf ladkiyon ke liye. Ladkon ke liye to ye sirf ek Health Hazard hai!
Rock show mei hai to hint hai. Library ya mandir mein hai to hint nahi hai! Venue decide karta hai aapka character.
Shahar mein ladkiyon ko akela nahi rehna chahiye. Ladke reh sakte hai par ladkiyan nahi. Akeli, independent ladkiyan, ladkon ko confuse kar deti hai.
‘Na’ sirf ek shabd nahi… apne aap mein pura vakya hai. Ise kisi tark, spashtikaran, explanation ya vyakhya ki jaroorat nahi hoti.
These boys must realise that No ka matlab No hota hai. Use bolne wali ladki koi parichit ho, friend ho, girlfriend ho, koi sex worker ho ya aapki apni biwi hi kyu na ho. ‘No’ means no and when someone says No, you stop.
Jo ladkiyan party mei jaati hai aur drink karti hai, wo pushtaini hak ban jaati hai aapka
We all can totally relate to every single thing that has been mentioned above and we all must have faced such things in our life. The dialogues are extracted from a movie but completely justify the plight of an independent working woman who faces tons of criticism by the society at the end of the day other than the multitasking she has been doing to achieve an identity at the first place.

On one side, we talk about feminism and gender inequality and to the other, we judge, molest, misbehave woman as per our convenience. We here tackle so many judgments regarding our weight, color, behavior, choice of career, clothes we wear and what not. The parameters of a well-cultured girl never met and the discussion never ends. What we need to implement is a safer country and society for everyone around us that will ensure the actual progress of a nation.
In a country, where the number of sexual assaults is on a hike, we need to reconsider the ideology on which we are living. The mindset has to change before it’s too late.
This will not just take two to three years to revolutionise the sculpture of a woman in Indian society, it will take way more if we will move with the same acceleration with which we are moving forward. Remember, a progressive woman is the strongest pillar of our society and the one who can give us birth can build a world way better than if given the right respect, which is her right not something she must beg for.
