Indian Society Is So Harsh Over Women And Their Sexuality. Here’s The Proof!!

A country where people are obsessed with boys as a child, and even if you have a girl child at your home, the nation will still judge her on the basis of her color, clothes and even the way she thinks. Living her life on her terms is a complete no-no because we as women are expected to stay dependent despite how many titles, awards, and achievements we’ll ever achieve. The implications for a woman since years (not just in India), is the result of male dominance over centuries.

Talking about India, taking the pitch even higher, we are conditioned towards a male dominated society since the day we were born. This pre-conditioning of society is no less than Hitler conditioing Germany for war ever since he took the charge. You may consider this utter rubbish and can call me a nasty feminist who is just exaggerating things. But if you ever considered grass root India, you’ll find how we are building a non-safe society for women since ages. Our society has been really harsh towards women and her sexuality ever since it was built. Take a cue from the points given below-

1. The “purity culture” in India has led to a new definition where women are ironically refrained from expressing any kind of sexuality. The presence of your hymen and the blood stains on the very first night of your marriage can judge your character to a great extent, failing which can directly put objectionable remark of a “whore” on your character.

2. Girls and women are mostly questioned for grasping man’s gaze by wearing vulnerable clothes or provoking clothes that may urge their sexual preferences increasing the chances of rape attempts. Covering up their bodies was found as a safety measure for girls and women keeping the risk pretty minimum. Ironically, there are no facts and figures established to exemplify this point till the point I wrote this article.

3. Women Basic Health Necessities Were Never Matched Up to the mark in Indian society. After 69 years of Independence, we are still unable to implement the basic maternity health requirements for the women knowing the fact that the reproductive health needs of a woman are way more than a man’s. While most of us still find it difficult to visit a gyane on a regular basis even in urban areas, indicates the lack of constructive information into Indian society.

4. Once a woman gives her consent, she’s not allowed to withdraw it back as the rape exists for only a virgin woman. Her past decisions will affect her further exercise to make a credible decision for her sexuality. In short, her consent is no longer a matter of concern as once she’s impure there’s no looking back to it. This can further question the matter as to whether she was harassed or just aroused snatching the tag of victim from her.

5. The Impending cases leading to a slow conceptualization of lawful acts and judgments often spreads a wrong message to the society where a minor is not charged guilty even if he was a part of a brutal gang rape. This not only disappoints the victim but she also loses her interests in words like “Justice” leading to an unfair judgment that too after a long period of time.

All these facts are based largely on major issues which our country has been facing since years where tons of rules and regulations and of course the laws have been implemented for the sake of woman beneficiary. A quote like this truly suffice the thought-

In a country like India, where Bollywood, art, and cinema have a deep impact on public and it somewhere builds a base for the society. But have a look where’s that directed these days-

1. The role of Alia Bhatt aka Vaidehi from Badrinath Ki Dulhania a career-centric woman was forced into a marriage by a brat by nature who seems like an overgrown stubborn child Varun Dhawan in the movie.

2. Pick any Rajshri Production film and you’ll get a glimpse of a perfect sanskaari bahu on the terms of Indian society where they were supposed to sacrifice their independence, emotions and the entire role of a female lead revolving around her husband and his family.’

3. Not to forget the so-sansakaari lyrics of Indian cinema who believe in “Gandi Baat” and Tu chiz badi hai mast mast” type of feminism.

Ofcourse there are movies like Dor, Queen, and Pink which restore our faith in Indian cinema which did a tremendous job in highlighting the darker shades of our society but that movies like these remain a matter of discussion and debate rather than igniting a spark.

Yes, we have come really far in terms of GDP growth, economical balance, and so on but there’s a great need to give our woman the independence and belief that is their right being the citizen of the largest democracy in the world.

As a woman, myself I don’t want the neighbor aunty cribbing about my personal choice, the people whom I talk to, I go on a date, the drink I choose, the clothes I wear, the profession I pick or the decisions I make in my life.

The day we will stop justifying our life to the society will be the day we can call ourselves Independent on real terms.
