We give a lot of power and  priority to hair in this day and age. You may think that we are over that thing by now, but no. Women are still asked to have long hair, and if we cut it short it’s still considered as a controversial move. Especially when celebrities do it. So, we know, when an actress chooses to shave her head– it’s a very big deal. There are so many actresses who went bald for their movie roles.

1. Natalie Portman- V For Vendatta

For the role of  Evey Hammond in V for Vendetta, Natalie Portman shaved her head, and she only had one scene for that look. When Natalie shaved her head, her family did it too.

2. Tilda Swinton- Doctor Strange

In movie Doctor Strange, Tilda plays the role of  ‘the Ancient One’ and she is completely bald in the movie. Tilda chose to shave her head because wanted to live her character in the movie. Audience didn’t know about this look of hers because as she herself said, “It would be such fun if people don’t know anything.”

4. Charlize Theron- Mad Max: Fury Road

Charlize shaved her head to play the character of Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max:Fury Road. All the efforts made by Charlize payed off as this movie got maximum Oscar awards in 2016. Regarding shaving her head, Charlize had to say this “I highly recommend it. I think every woman should do it.”

4. Karren Gillen- Guardians Of The Galaxy

Karren shaved her head for the role of Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy.She shaved her head to get this role before she even got it, because she thought it would help her get the role. And it sure did, and she rocked it.

5. Cate Blanchett- Heaven

Cate Blanchett shaved her head for a role in her movie called Heaven. She played a teacher who decides to take on the leader of drug cartel after her husband and some of her students die of an overdose.

“Shaving off my hair is so liberating. I had to do it once for a film role, but I’ve done it periodically too.”

6. Shabana Azmi- Water

Shabana Azmi had shaved her head for the role in the movie “Water” which was directed by Deepa Mehta. Unfortunately, this movie got into some controversy while shooting and Shabana left the movie.

7. Antara Mali- And Once Again

Antara Mali, who was the most favorite actress of Ramgopal Verma, and has acted in movies Road, Company etc. She shaved off her head for Amol Palekar’s film ‘And Once Again’ for the role of a monk in Sikkim.

8. Lisa Ray- Water

Lisa Ray was later caste  in the movie “Water”  after Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das walked out of it, she also sported the bald look for the movie. She played role of a widow in the movie.

9. Tanvi Azmi- Bajirao Mastani

Tanvi was seen in the role of a Maratha widow in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’ for which she has gone bald in reality. She played the role of Ranveer Singh’s mother.

10. Seema Biswas- Water

Seema Biswas also went bald for the movie ‘Water’. She played the role of the twins in the movie and she was the only widow in the movie who could read.
