5 MOMENTS THAT MADE INDIA PROUD IN 2018

It’s the month of August which means that more than half of this year has already passed and it also means that we Indians will be celebrating our 71st Independence Day. On 15th August, 1947, our country gained Independence from our British rulers. Since then, we Indians have proudly celebrated the anniversary of our Independence every year. As it’s Independence Day 2018 next week, let us remember 5 instances until now in 2018 that have made us all proud of being an Indian.

 

 

Indian U-19 Cricket Team Lifted World Cup For the 4th Time

It was February 3, 2018; the final match of Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2018 was played between the Indian and Australian teams, in which India emerged as victorious after beating Australia by 8 wickets at the Bay Oval cricket ground in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. The hero of this victory was Manjeet Kalra, who scored a century of 101* runs. The Indian cricketer Subhman Gill was given the Player of the Tournament award. This was 7 years after the famous Indian win in World Cup 2011, that Indian cricket made its mark again in an international cricketing event, making all Indian citizens really proud of the young cricketers of our country.

India became the 6th Largest Economy in the World

From the 7th largest country in the world and the largest democracy in the world, India went on to be recognized as the world’s 6th largest economy, after the World Bank gave its reports for the previous year of 2017. India overtook France to take the 6th place. The Indian GDP amounted to $2.597 Trillion which was more than France’s $2.582 trillion, making every Indian proud of the fact that our country is finally taking steps towards becoming a greater world power.

Indian Contingent’s Historic Performance at the Commonwealth Games 2018

This was probably Indian contingent’s best performance in the commonwealth games so far. India finished 3rd on the medal’s tally. Held in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, the 2018 commonwealth games ended with India winning 66 medals in total, 26 of these were gold medals. The performance put up by the Indian athletes made the whole of India proud of them.

Hima Das Won 400m Race Gold Medal In IAAF U-20 Meet

The 18 year old Indian track and field athlete from the state of Assam created history after winning a gold medal at the IAAF under-20 meet held in Tampere, Finland. This was the first ever gold medal for India at a world track event. The daughter of a rice farmer, Hima Das’s dream run made all of India proud. Gathering congratulations from everyone, Hima is now seen as the potential contender for a gold medal at the Olympics.

Indian-Origin Australian Akshay Venkatesh Won Fields Medal For Mathematics:

In 2018 four people from around the world were awarded Fields Medal for Mathematics, among them was the Indian-origin Australian mathematician Mr. Akshay Venkatesh. He is a professor at the Stanford University. Akshay has been a genius since his childhood as he had completed his high school just at the age of 13, and later went on to acquire his PhD. by the age of 20. Akshay has also won awards like SASTRA Ramanujan Prize and Salem Prize. Akshay Venkatesh was born in Delhi, though he and his family left India when he was just 2 years old, but Indians are still proud of his massive achievement as the Fields Medal is considered equivalent to the Noble Prize.
