Muthayya Vanitha is a Scientist at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). She is the Project Director of Chandrayaan-2 Lunar Mission which was one of the first of its kind of lunar missions.

About Muthayya Vanitha, it is very little known to the world. Even on the internet there’s not much revealed about such a marvelous person of the country. But let’s see what have we come to know about her.
Muthayya Vanitha joined ISRO in 1987 as the junior most engineers where she was testing carts, making hardware, designing and development. Today, she has reached a managerial position at ISRO.
Vanitha hails from Chennai in Southern India. She is the daughter of a Civil Engineer. She is one of those women who have made a miracle come true by making the Chandrayaan-2 a successful mission in just a fraction of the budget as compared to how much other countries spend.
At first she was hesitant to take the responsibility of being the Project Director of Chandrayaan-2. She was an Associate Director of the Chandrayaan-1. After seeing her active participation in the Chandrayaan-1 project, the Project Director, M. Annadurai persuaded her to be the Project Director of the second mission.
The Chandrayaan-2 was the kind of a project which had 30 percent women working day in and day out to make this a success.

Whenever it comes to someone who is an expert at data handling, it’s always Muthayya Vanitha who comes to the mind of the people. She has been researching on a lot of phenomenon and a lot of her researches are available on the official site of ISRO. The first of her researches is CORDIC.
During her Chandrayaan-1, she exponentially handled and maintained all the data for research and technical purposes. This skill helped her excel in the Chandrayaan-2 mission.
In order to appreciate her contributions to the country, Muthayya has been conferred with the Best Woman Scientist Award in 2006 by the Indian Aeronautical Society.
CORDIC stands for Coordinate Rotation Digital Computer. It is a form of algorithm that helps in increasing the accuracy over speed. CORDIC is used to compute trigonometry function through a series of function.
