5 Tips To Keep Your Vagina Healthy

Experiencing vaginal pain can quickly put you in a position where it hurts to go to the bathroom. Having irritation and pain in this area may also put a damper on your sex life.

1. Get Health Screenings Regularly

One of the best methods you can use to keep your vagina healthy is by committing to regular health screenings. Visiting a gynecologist specializing in routine care can help ensure you avoid pain and other problems in this private area. 

If you’re a young woman, you may want to consider utilizing the HPV vaccination to help reduce the chance of getting cervical cancer. Getting a Pap smear completed is also recommended to help check for cancer.

2. Using Condoms Is Essential

Ensuring you use condoms during sexual activity is also an excellent way to safeguard against having problems with your vagina. Protecting yourself against sexually transmitted diseases is critical, which requires you to wear condoms with any new partners to be as safe as possible. Using condoms during sex can also help keep the pH level of your vagina steady. 

Having this level occur allows good bacteria to stay in the area, which can be a critical factor in helping you prevent yeast infections and UTIs. It’s also important to avoid using the same condom for vaginal and anal sex. Going from the rear to the front without pausing can introduce a host of bacteria that may give you an infection.

3. Go Natural

Douching or using prepackaged wipes on your vagina is not recommended. Letting your body work naturally to clean itself is usually best. Using water to clean your vagina should be enough to freshen up the area. 

Several commercial products marketed to women to clean your vagina aren’t backed by science and may cause problems. Using specific shampoos and soaps in the bathtub or shower may also be irritating if you have highly sensitive skin. Keeping an eye on laundry detergents is also advised to help keep your vagina free from irritation.

4. Eat Right and Exercise

Performing Kegel exercises and controlling your weight by eating right is another fantastic way to maintain healthy sexual organs if you’re a woman. It’s also essential to understand how your body works if you’ve got chronic conditions such as diabetes. 

Having a health challenge, like diabetes, can increase the odds of getting a UTI or yeast infection. 5. Stick With Cotton

Wearing underwear to cover your private parts is best done using cotton in the crotch. Having this material cover your vagina allows more breathability and absorbs moisture. Going commando and not wearing underwear is also suggested to help air out the area periodically.
