Effective Ways to Minimise Your Energy Bills in Victoria

Electricity is essential in any household in Victoria but can get expensive if you’re not careful about your consumption or are on a costly plan. If you’re getting concerned about your high electricity bills, there are possible methods you can utilise to keep them down.

Victorian electricity distributors offer some of the most competitively priced plans in Australia. Once you’ve found your ideal plan through comparison and thorough analysis, utilise these tips to keep your electricity bills low.

Use Energy-Efficient Appliances

When you have a lot of appliances that require constant or large loads of electricity, your electricity bill will see huge spikes suddenly. To ensure that you’re getting full use of your appliances and keeping your energy bill low, it’s crucial to invest in energy-efficient appliances.

You can find energy ratings on almost all of the new appliances sold in the market today. If you’re still unsure about how much electricity your appliances take, you can go to the Energy Rating website to find out. You should also check whether your energy provider in Victoria offers Controlled Load Tariffs, so you can use large amounts of electricity without paying a higher bill.

Keep Lights and Unnecessary Appliances Off

While you may think lights don’t take much electricity, you may be entirely wrong about that. Based on the type of lights you have in your home and the size of your household, lights kept on for more than a few hours can end up increasing your bill amount in no time.

You should also ensure that you’re keeping any unnecessary appliances, like your microwave, TV, off when they’re not in use. Keeping them plugged in and switched on all the time can also steadily increase your electricity bill.

Keep the AC Temperature Regulated

Putting your AC at too high or too low temperatures can end up sucking in more electricity than needed. Depending on what type of AC system you have (HVAC or single-unit ACs), the amount of energy used to get the room at an optimal temperature can be pretty high.

Ensure that your AC temperature is always at the recommended temperature (usually 24C) so you don’t have to change the temperature and use more electricity constantly. You can also use Auto Timer to ensure that the AC is turned off when the room has reached the optimal temperature. If you have heating appliances in your home, utilise this same tactic for them too.

Use Power Strips

Sometimes, you may have power sockets in inaccessible or difficult to reach places, making turning them off a hassle. When you want to ensure you’re turning off unnecessary appliances, getting a power strip or extension cord can help.

With these gadgets, you can plug multiple appliances without any issues and turn them off when they’re not in use. It enables you to use more devices from a single power source and not worry about reaching the primary source to turn it off.

Install Fans

While Victorian electricity distributors offer low-priced plans to ensure you’re not paying hundreds of dollars in bills each month, it’s a good idea to install some appliances in your home to help with that too.

Installing ceiling fans or stand-alone fans is also an excellent way to keep your electricity bill low in Victoria. They traditionally use less electricity than an AC and can get the job done as well. When it’s hot outside but not hot enough for you to turn the AC on, consider using fans that can keep the air circulating while providing cooling air.
