In an era that is gradually waking up to the need to live mindfully, handmade items bring with them not just utility but stories, histories, and connections. Every craft, the chiseling of a bowl or block-printing of a fabric, speaks of the human touch, speaks of a cultural heritage, and carries with it a personal touch. Among the few Indian brands that still promote this spirit is iTokri, an online portal that celebrates Indian craftsmanship in all its beauty. iTokri.com is more than just an online store; it is a tribute to India’s craft communities. From mango wood to Madhubani painting, it carefully chooses the less glamorous things of the everyday that speak of heart and heritage. By selecting the Handcrafted Mango Wooden Bowls (Set of 3) from their collection, we were not merely purchasing a kitchen item; we were adding a tale to our dining table setting.

The Story Behind iTokri – A Craft-Led Journey Rooted in Purpose
iTokri was founded in 2012 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, from a small offline shop committed to empowering rural producers and local crafters. From a small offline business, it quickly grew into one of India’s most popular online marketplaces for handcrafted items.
The idea was simple but incredibly powerful – To bring Indian artisans together with conscious consumers. The company works directly with over 500 artisans, NGOs, and craft clusters from all over India, not only offering them a platform but also dignity, respect, and a secure source of income.
Their attention goes beyond physical sales of products; it is on upholding traditions. Handloom clothing, environmentally friendly packaging, or handmade woodenware—each product reflects the essence of its artisans, untainted and original. Their warmth extends even to their packaging, which is made from environment-friendly materials, turning the unwrapping process into an emotionally rich experience.

Our Personal Experience with iTokri Brown – Handcrafted Mango Wooden Bowls (Set of 3)
Something poetic is associated with handmade items coming into our daily spaces, especially when the handmade items embody simplicity and intentionality. We discovered the Handcrafted Mango Wooden Bowls (Set of 3) on iTokri. The bowls were a perfect blend of gorgeous, functional and rustic elegance. The images had a minimalistic aesthetic with a slightly rustic finish, which was exactly what we were after.
First Impressions:
The first thing that struck us when we received our parcel was the packaging. True to iTokri’s sustainability ethos, the parcel was wrapped in traditional Indian fabric, which added a fantastic personal touch to the unboxing experience. Each bowl was individually supported and you could tell not only that the customer service is on point but also that some thoughtfulness and detail were packaged with the bowls.
The bowls were all made from solid mango wood with a natural finish, which allowed the wood grains to show through. There were minor imperfections and colour tones of the bowls that varied from each other. Each line and imperfection are just a mark of the handmade craft. The mixed tones ultimately confirmed the authenticity and uniqueness of the set.
Aesthetic & Functionality:
- The natural brown color gives a warm, organic touch to any table setting.
- Ideal size for serving snacks, fruit, dry items, or desserts.
- The bowls have a subtle sheen – they are not overly glossy – and carry the raw aspect of wood.
- Lightweight yet solidly made. Practical and eye-catching.
Simple design but effectively making a statement – the bowls are all slightly different yet that is what creates personality. They sit well on a wooden dining table or in front of minimal kitchen background elevating the ambiance of that space.
Our Takeaway:
This bowl set is not just another kitchen good. It is an example of India’s woodworking tradition and how ordinary items can still be soulful. Sure, there are minor imperfections naturally, but that is part of the charm of handmade. Instead of a uniform machine finish, we receive something more personal and grounded.
For us, it fulfilled the ethos of what iTokri is about – handcrafted stories that sit beautifully in modern life.
