Hey, gorgeous! The enchanting extravaganza that is Lame Fashion Week is now over, and I can’t help but look at some of the looks from this season’s collections again and again.
Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 had all sorts of looks – from royal traditional ethnic wear to Indowestern mash-ups to western casuals and gowns. But if you’re going to be a summer or an autumn bride, then this one’s for you, because I went through all the collections to pick out the top 5 bridal lehengas and engagement party dresses. So let’s start with this season’s hottest trends!
Contents
#1: Lehenga with the Crop Top
Crop top cholis are probably the hottest trend this season. Pair them with traditional lehengas with broad borders, or with Anarkali-style layered lehengas or with casual lehenga skirts, depending on the occasion. My favorite is this blue lehenga and crop top set from Manish Malhotra’s 2016 collection.
#2: Floor-Touching Ponchos and Capes
Ponchos and capes, some floor-touching and some hip-long, are taking the place of duppattas in lehengas, and we noticed this trend in many designers’ collections, including Manish Malhotra and Rohit Bal. Here’s my favorite – another Manish Malhotra design, worn by showstopper Jacqueline Fernandez. The gown is topped with a sheer tulle poncho with a long train. Quite a statement, it’s great for destination weddings or extravagant engagements.
#3: Long Trains
Match the glossy and intricate embroidery of the Indian lehengas with the long, royal trains of the western wedding gowns! Long trains have been trendy since last season, but this time, we saw them on every major runway. This is one of my favorite trends for bridal lehengas in 2016. My favorite in the lot is this Shriya Som white lehenga with the off-shoulder fringe choli, worn by showstopper Ujjwala Raut.
#4: Full-Sleeved Choli
Well, the scorching summer heat hardly calls for full sleeves, but perhaps we’ll reserve this trend for those destination weddings or winters when you wanna look chic without a sweater! Here’s the gorgeous lehenga in royal blue by Rohit Bal, worn by showstopper Kareena Kapoor Khan.
#5: Feminine Yet Sexy
If full-sleeved traditional choli doesn’t cut it for your bold personality, try the bralette choli! Loving this gorge lehenga from Anushree Reddy’s Summer/Resort 2016 collection, and the soft color palette of silver and pastel pink.
