Breast Milk Composition in a New Mother

A mother wants to feed the best to her children and every time she visits the supermarket, she checks for the ingredients of them food items for children. But, does she know the breast milk composition she is producing? Let’s know that today.

Types of Breast Milk

Breast milk is made of several compounds in a certain composition that is optimum for the baby’s growth. Breast milk is also divided into two types – colostrum and normal breast milk.

Just like different types of breast milk, there are different types of breastfeeding as well.

Colostrum is a yellowish syrupy compound produced by the mother for the first two three weeks after her delivery. It helps in providing immune response to the child and helps in its development.

The other type of breast milk is the one produced post colostrum phase. This is less yellowish syrupy compound and it looks more like milk. This has less of those essential nutrients for the child. Although, this doesn’t mean that this milk is not useful. It is useful, but it’s not as powerful as the colostrum was.

There are different quantities of vitamins available in the breast milk and different in colostrum.

Amino Acids

There are around 21 amino acids known to us. Out of these 21 amino acids, more than 20 amino acids are found in the breast milk. This means that a child will have almost all the amino acids to fulfill its protein requirement.

Enzymes

You might have seen that a baby digests its food (milk) very fast and excretes frequently. This is all due to the amount of enzymes present in the milk which help in digesting itself. A baby isn’t able to produce HCl just like us. Therefore it needs some enzymes to boost the digestion process.

The breast milk composition of enzymes is around 40. Which means that it’s going to help the body in developing strength, immunity and improved vitality.

Vitamins in Breast Milk

It is known that there can’t be anything better than mother’s milk for a child. The mother’s milk contains many vitamins and minerals in it.

Along with all the nutrition it provides, the vitamins in breast milk help in making the child stronger and facilitate its growth.

There are a lot of Vitamins in breast milk except Vitamin K. Otherwise, all other vitamins are present in decent amounts for the baby to fulfill its needs.

Colostrum

During the phase when a child needs colostrum, your body would only be able to produce around 40 ml of it. So, no need to worry about it.
